Why it is important
A key part of Ramsay’s business strategy is driving stronger growth from the core and developing new growth platforms. This includes improving utilisation of our current footprint, a pipeline of developments focussed on procedural capacity in major hospitals in growth corridors, and partnerships with health services and/or businesses with relevant adjacencies in support of our Ramsay 2030 Strategic Priority of ‘connecting patient and doctor journeys.’ Ensuring these assets and new infrastructure are efficient and future-fit is essential to maintaining a resilient asset base.
Our management approach
Ramsay is focussed on investing in local health infrastructure to meet the growing demand for high-quality care in communities across Australia and the UK. Ramsay achieves this by improving the efficiency of its existing hospital footprint (including theatre utilisation), and investing in developments, acquisitions or clinical technologies, where appropriate.
Ramsay are particularly focussed on investing in procedural capacity in major hospitals in growth corridors to meet growing demand. Ramsay also invests in physical and clinical infrastructure and systems that improve quality of care, enable more connected care, and uplift employee, doctor and patient experience - including robotic surgical systems, clinical monitoring systems, and patient administration systems. Ramsay also continues to build its Ramsay Research and Development Network (clinical trials) to support the development of new treatments.
Regional Development Committees are responsible for the development pipeline in our regional businesses. Major projects are raised with the Global Capital Investment Committee, which oversees the growth strategy and is responsible for approval of significant brownfield and greenfield projects. Major acquisitions and developments are provided to the Board for approval.
Ecologically sustainable development (ESD) requirements are considered on a case-by-case basis; we see this as a growing opportunity and a focus going forward. Innovation and new models of care are also important considerations in the development pipeline.
